Fallon and Oasis Academy’s cross country teams competed at the Douglas Class Races on Friday.

In the 2.55-mile cross country meet at Lampe Park in Minden, the race was split by classes: freshman, sophomore, junior and senior.

Jackson Barbee led Fallon in the boys freshman class with a finish of 17 minutes, 43 seconds, followed by Leojro Chavez in 17:45 and Alexander Sorensen in 20:17.. Leonidas Arcoraci led the Oasis freshmen with a time of 20:13, followed by Kamron Bracken at 20:24. The top freshman time was 14:49 from Wooster’s Carson Boyer.

The lone runner in the freshman girls class from either school was Fallon’s Abigail Lacow, who ran the course in 24:24. The best time came from Carson’s Anna Shane (18:02).

In the sophomore division, Hunter Adams led Oasis with a time of 19:52 followed by Kayden White in 20:12 and Chase Ackerman in 22:43. Fallon’s William McNeill led his team with a time of 21 minutes. The top sophomore time was 13:24 from Galena’s Kole Steele.

Neither Fallon or Oasis Academy had runners in the junior or senior class.


Volleyball

Oasis Academy was the only volleyball team in action as Fallon had the week off.

The Bighorns finished 1-3 in a Reno tournament on Saturday at Hug High School. The lone win came in the final match over rival Coral Academy.

Oasis Academy opened the 2A league season on Wednesday against Pershing County.

The Bighorns defeated the Falcons, 25-21 and 25-21.

Sophomore Grace Laca led the team with three kills and senior Shelbi Bracken had one kill. Four players recorded aces with Bracken and sophomore Alyssa Ayers each having four, while senior Madison Darst had two and junior Kaylin Guthrie had one. Ayers and Darst also recorded two assists apiece.

Oasis Academy, which moved up to the 2A this year, opened the one-day tournament with a pair of two-game losses to North Valleys and South Tahoe, which compete in the 3A West.

In the 25-10 and 25-12 loss to North Valleys, Bracken, Laca and sophomore Dahlila Creer each had one kill. Darst and Laca each served an ace, Laca had a block solo, and Guthrie and Bracken each had one dig.

The Bighorns fell to South Tahoe in straight games, 25-9 and 25-6.

Laca was the only one to register a kill, Bracken had an ace and Ayers finished with one assist.

Oasis Academy’s final loss came to Hug’s JV team, 25-14 and 25-21.

Bracket and junior Kirsten Detomasi each had a kill, and Guthrie and Darst each led the team in aces with two while Ayers and Creer each added one. Guthrie finished with four digs, Laca had one block and Darst recorded an assist.
