Boys basketball: Fallon pushes win streak to four

The Greenwave boys basketball team swept a pair of games against the 3A West, extending its win streak to four.

Fallon defeated Wooster, 58-51, last Wednesday in Reno before running past Sage Ridge, 76-39, on Friday in the Greenwave’s home opener and coming from behind to avenge last year’s loss to North Valleys with a 54-45 victory in Fallon.

Fallon (4-2) traveled to Reed on Tuesday before hitting the road again on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. battle against Hug. Fallon hosts Sparks on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Seniors Brady Alves and Luke Glinka led Fallon in scoring with Alves finishing with 17 points, including three 3-points, and Glinka adding 10. Freshman Calin Anderson and senior Carter Paul each scored six points with Paul’s scoring coming from long range, and juniors Trevor Hyde and Braden Sorensen, and sophomore Wyatt Peek each had five.

Senior Baylor Sandberg led the team in rebounds with eight and assists with four to go with four points, and Glinka grabbed seven boards. Hyde had six rebounds, Peek and Sorensen each added five, and Anderson and Paul each finished with four. Hyde and Alves each had three assists, and Sorensen added two. Alves had a game-high eight steals, and Anderson recorded two blocks.

Glinka and Sorensen led the team in scoring against Sage Ridge with Glinka converted 75 percent of his field goals for 18 points. Sorensen sunk 3-of-5 from long range for 15 points, and Alves finished with nine points. Paul hit two 3’s to finish with eight points, and Peek and Hyde each scored six. All but two players scored and had a rebound.

Glinka and Sandberg each had five rebounds, Paul added four, and Alves, Peek, Anderson and Hyde each had two. Alves led the team in assists and steals with six each, and junior Colin Shishido had six steals.

In the final game of the week, Fallon trailed by three points to end the first quarter before getting a point back to trail 25-23 at halftime. The Greenwave outscored the Panthers, 14-7, to open the second half and take the lead before sealing the win with a 17-point fourth quarter.

Glinka recorded his third double-digit scoring game of the week, leading the team with 12 points, and Paul had 11, including two 3-pointers. Alves hit two 3’s to finish with eight and Hyde also had eight points. Sandberg finished with seven points, Sorensen added four, and Anderson and Peek each had two.

Hyde led the team in rebounding with 14, including nine offensive boards, and Glinka was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with nine. Sorensen had eight rebounds and Sandberg added seven. Alves led the team with six assists and four steals.
