Fallon’s American Legion Fred Anderson Post 16 will be delivering Christmas meals on Monday as part of the William S. Pennington’s Meals on Wheels program.

Paul “Pip” Valentin, coordinator of the post’s holiday meal program, said volunteers are needed for packaging and delivering meals like they did at Thanksgiving.

Valentin said he had many volunteers from Naval Air Station Fallon and from the local community to prepare the meals and ready them for delivery to more than 100 seniors. He said the routes vary from within the city limits to 10 miles south of Fallon, east toward the air station and west toward Leetville Junction.

Volunteers begin their preparation early in the morning by preparing a traditional Christmas meal. Valentin said the other volunteers are needed between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.

The post’s hall will be open later in the morning to serve free Christmas dinners to anyone in the community who needs a holiday meal. During the year, Valentin said the post receives monetary donations from individuals or groups and from local American Legion fundraising events held during the year.
