A banner materialized over the extended Christmas weekend on the former Arnulfo’s restaurant at 1250 S. Carson Street — a sign announcing that Carl’s Jr. would soon be coming.

The building has been empty since Arnulfo’s Mexican Food closed in November. If the banner holds true, it would mean the return of the Carl’s Jr. fast-food franchise to Carson City after nearly a decade. In 2014, the Carl’s Jr. by the Carson Mall was demolished to make room for more parking.

The parent company of Carl’s Jr., CKE Restaurant Holdings Inc., did not respond to the Appeal’s request for information as of Tuesday.

“With both a U.S. and international footprint, Carl's Jr. Restaurants LLC and Hardee's Restaurants LLC have over 3,800 franchised or company-operated restaurants in 44 states and 43 foreign countries and U.S. territories,” reads the company’s website.

Using the restaurant chain’s online career search, the Appeal found no jobs listed for a Carson City location as of Tuesday. Furthermore, the closest Carl’s Jr. was nearly 18 miles away on Damonte Ranch Parkway in Reno, according to the site’s location finder.
