Illumination and house-warming: The New Ormsby house was illuminated last night presenting a gorgeous appearance. It was crowded with strangers – mostly legislators – and with the jolly proprietor behind the elegant bar, such a time was never known before.

New mines: Many incorporations are following the discovery of Rochester Canyon and the mining district 110 miles northeast of Reno, near Lovelock. Most of the monied men of the state have taken a chance at the new camp and a new incorporation is being filed. Billy Pitts is noted among those who are in on the ground floor.

Fleischmann: J.W, Calhoun, Nevada State Museum director, announced that the museum has been the recipient of a $10,000 contribution from the Max C. Fleischmann Foundation. The gift was received by board chairman Clark J. Guild. The gift will be used in widening the museum’s program to include extensive archeological research in Nevada and installation of many new exhibits.

Adventure awaits: Three well known lads, Edgar Pierce, Johnnie McTaryhan and Charley Cavanaugh decided they must see the world – perhaps Spanish castles. They took $500 which was money that had earned between them by honest, hard labor and carefully saved up for the bold enterprise, took their places in the cars at the V&T and left for San Francisco. They told their young friends that they were going to ship in a whaling vessel.

Madman: The crazy man from Empire left a goodly batch of creditors to mourn his unexpected departure. Steady ye, a powerful ‘cuss,’ resisted sheriff Swift and clinched him by the throat. After a struggle, the sheriff was too much for the madman, and was put to bed in his little cell.

Livery and feed stable: D. Circe has a fine stock of fast and safe horses and new carriages…. Horses boarded by the day, week or month and given the best of feed.

Tom Thumb Company: There was a large audience to greet the Tom Thumb Company who gave a pantomimical performance – very laughable. Count Magri, in his impersonation of the Duchess of Devonshire, was a comical figure. The performance gave even greater satisfaction than that of the previous evening with Trazom’s hypnotic feats and sleight-of-hand.

St. Peter’s Church: The ladies will give an entertainment Thursday and Friday evening at the Opera House, consisting of an exhibition of mechanical dolls, followed by the “Butterflies.” All to conclude with dancing from nine till twelve. Admission both evenings fifty cents. There will be a table with packages for sale at 25 cents each both evenings.

Grabbed the thief: Mrs. George Nixon of Reno, discovered a man hiding under the bed and managed to keep him there until the police arrived. He came in while the family was at dinner. Thief was identified as Ed Lininger, who has been drunk and disorderly about the town for some time.

Air rifles: Chief Howard Hoffman, deputy police chief, warned young residents of Carson City against shooting air rifles. He said there was a near mishap in which one youngster haphazardly shot another between the eyes. The child was wearing eye glasses and did not lose his sight. Air rifles will be taken away from offenders in the future.
