In addition to our world-famous indoor games and entertainment, Nevada is very much a recreational-based lifestyle. We work hard for what? To play! One thing driving our good real estate market is that people from neighboring states are opting to move to where they like to vacation and play… Nevada.

Outdoor recreation is varied and plentiful in Nevada. World class skiing is a treat in the winter. There are many ski resorts to choose from for downhill skiing plus helicopter skiing in beautiful remote areas. Additionally, there are numerous cross-country opportunities. In the summer, water skiing is to be enjoyed affording a wonderful contrast, water-based recreation in a desert.

Boating is enjoyed in many ways from the leisurely aquatic pleasure of a picnic at Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe to houseboating excursions at the larger lakes of Southern Nevada. The waterways also provide opportunities for paddleboarding, kayaking or windsurfing. Plenty of jet skiing opportunities as well.

The many lakes and streams of Nevada provide fishing for the angling enthusiast. From Mackinaw at Lake Tahoe to the gorgeous Golden Trout found in Alpine lakes at higher elevations, Nevada’s fishing opportunities are many and enjoyable. Some require a bit of a hike to access, enhancing the experience.

Horseback riding is a staple in Nevada recreation. Trails for riding abound as do public arenas for skill riding i.e., team roping, barrel racing, etc. Speaking of trails, there are many for the motocross and ATV enthusiast as well as paths or non-road explorable areas for the true four-wheel drive enthusiast.

Many new transplants to Nevada come to escape limiting gun laws where they come from. Whether for personal protection, target practice, or hunting, they like the fact that Nevada’s approach to guns and hunting is reasonable. Hunting opportunities range from meat to trophy quality as well as predator control.

Nevada gardening has a limited season but serves the gardening afficionado well. The growing season is limited as everyone knows to not put your tomatoes out until after Memorial Day, but it produces well. One benefit of the limited season is that you have more time for other recreation since your lawn goes dormant in Northern Nevada and you don’t have to mow it year ‘round.

There are many organized adult recreational activities in Nevada communities ranging from softball, flag football leagues, volleyball, team roping, etc. There are hiking clubs, motorcycle clubs, 4WD groups and more. If you have an activity that you enjoy or are interested in getting involved with you can surely find it here. Nevada offers world class soaring, renowned hiking and a western mindset that lets you do your thing without intrusion from others.

Nevada’s substantial outdoor recreation sector is largely due to the fact that 87 percent of the land in Nevada is publicly owned. The federal land is almost all open for recreational purposes and will be for the foreseeable future allowing Nevadans to sustain their outdoor recreational pleasures. Whether looking for someplace to get a clear look at the stars, enjoy varied gorgeous natural scenery opportunities, or enjoy your favorite outdoor sport/activity, Nevada has it.

Hang on to your youth with Nevada’s great recreational mindset! New to the state? Try something new for your outdoor fun while you are at it.
