The Carson City Fire Department is offering a free wildfire preparedness workshop 6 to 8 p.m. June 20 at Station N. 51, 777 S. Stewart St., to help residents prepare for fire season after a wet winter.

“With the long winter of rain and snow, we have the potential for a busy fire season. We encourage all community members to register for the free workshop to help prepare for wildfires in our community,” the CCFD said in a press release.

In-person attendance is limited to the first 70 registrants. Registration is required and can be completed online at https://bit.ly/CarsonWildfirePrep. Those who would like to attend by Zoom can register online as well: https://bit.ly/CarsonWildfirePrepZoom.

Appetizers will be available for in-person attendees. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The event will include opening remarks from CCFD Fire Chief Sean Slamon and will then cover topics like wildfire spread, defensible space, fuels reduction and emergency evacuation preparedness.

Besides the CCFD, participating organizations will include Living with Fire, NV Energy, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Nevada Division of Forestry.
