Fallon businessman Chris Henning and his fellow firefighters believe in community togetherness and supporting each other.

Almost one year ago, the Churchill County Volunteer Fire Department hosted a street dance, fire truck rides and a free dinner on Carson Street. He said the event was well attended, and because of that, the fire department is inviting the community to its second annual street dance and dinner on May 12 from 5-9 p.m.

Families are welcome and the fire department encourages another big turnout from the area’s residents and visitors. Henning said people enjoyed the dancing last year, and local disc jockey Todd Moretto will provide the music.

Henning said the city of Fallon covered the cost of meals last year, but the guests still wanted to support their fire department with donations. He encourages residents and visitors to enjoy the evening by joining the members of the fire department and other first responders.

“We were pleased with last year’s turnout,” Henning said, adding he hopes this year’s street dance and dinner also attract a good crowd.

The dinner, which includes tri-tip sandwiches or hot dogs, is free, but Henning said a fireman’s boot for donations will be placed like last year. He said volunteers will be serving 70 tri-tip meals and 750 hot dogs, and soft drinks, beer, wine and cocktails will also be available.

Games for the family, kids rides on the fire truck and a gun raffle are favorites. Henning said members of the fire department have been selling raffle tickets. Each ticket is $20 and the ticket-holder doesn’t need to be present to win. Tickets also are available at Fallon Ford Toyota’s Service Department.

During last year’s street dance, Henning said cornhole and Jenga were popular games for people of all ages.
