Carson High girls XC dominates Truckee Invite

With a team total of 33 points, Carson High School cross country dominated the Truckee Invite this past weekend, beating second place North Tahoe (74) by 41 points.

Hannah Budd took second overall in 19:23, finishing behind Galena’s Eleanor Raker.

Vea Miner, Jinnir Ponczoch and Madison Hager were all top-10 finishers as well for the Senators with Miner taking sixth in 19:57.

Ponczoch was seventh for Carson in 20:11 and Hager took eighth in 20:14.

Brianna Rodriguez-Nunez crossed the line in 11th in 20:37 while freshman Anna Shane was 14th in 20:58.

Eleanor Romeo and Ella Dooley were 16th and 22nd, respectively, and were the final two Carson harriers to cross the line out of 95 total runners.

On the boys side, it was nearly a similar story.

The Senator boys were third as a team with 116 points.

Junior Sawyer Macy was fourth overall in 16:42.

In 11th was sophomore Sean Thornton, who finished in 17:19 while fellow sophomore Nate Freed was 22nd in 17:55.

Freshman Quinn Kuchnicki took 36th in 18:36 besting fellow freshman Ivan Romeo who was 50th.


Lancers down Carson volleyball in fifth set

Thursday night, Carson High volleyball built a 2-0 lead (25-13, 25-22) against McQueen before dropping the final three sets of the match – 25-17, 25-23, 15-9.

The loss is the Senators’ second straight defeat in Class 5A North league play, moving Carson to 5-5 in league games.

UP NEXT: Carson (17-6, 5-5) will be at home again Thursday against Damonte Ranch (0-9, 0-9).


Hallert’s hat trick leads Miners past Carson High girls soccer

Carson High and Bishop Manogue girls soccer were tied at 1-1 Friday before two goals from the Miners closed it out in the second half.

Grace Turner and Monse Iza each scored a goal for the Senators while Iza also was credited with an assist on Turner’s goal.

Vanessa Quezado Lara had the assist on Iza’s goal.

However, three goals from Miner junior Ella Hallert was enough to squeak out a win.

UP NEXT: Carson (2-5-2, 0-3 in Class 4A league play) will get the week off before traveling to Galena (5-6-2, 2-1-1) Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.


Carson boys soccer blanks Bishop Manogue

The Senator boys soccer team used two first-half goals Thursday night to get a win over Bishop Manogue by a 2-0 final.

The win moves Carson to 7-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in Class 5A Sierra League play.

UP NEXT: Carson will travel to Galena (6-9-1, 3-2) Saturday for a 3:15 p.m. start.


Dayton volleyball downs Lowry

The Dayton High volleyball team took care of Lowry over the weekend by a 3-1 final.

Set scores and stats were unavailable.

UP NEXT: The Dust Devils (5-8, 2-3 in Class 3A North league play) will travel out to Elko (11-2, 4-1) Friday for a 6 p.m. start.


Dust Devil boys soccer secures first win

Dayton High School boys soccer picked up its first win of the season by a 1-0 margin over White Pine Saturday.

The lone Dust Devil goal came off the foot of junior forward Jordan Johnson.

UP NEXT: Dayton (1-5, 1-5 in Class 3A North league play) will take on White Pine again Friday, this time in Ely.


Hamilton shuts out Dayton football

A high-powered Hamilton squad was too much for Dayton High football Saturday in a 52-0 win over the Dust Devils.

UP NEXT: Dayton (4-2) will be on the road again this week, taking on Pershing County (2-3) Friday at 7 p.m.


Falcon volleyball completes comeback over Coral Academy

After dropping the first two sets Saturday to Coral Academy, 25-23, 25-18, the Sierra Lutheran High School volleyball team was able to bounce back by winning the final three sets, 25-20, 25-20 and 15-10.

UP NEXT: The Falcons (4-8, 4-7 in Class 2A North league play) will host Pershing County (8-8, 7-4) Thursday at 5 p.m.


Virginia City football takes down Sierra Lutheran

Virginia City High School football powered past the Falcons Saturday by a final score of 42-6.

Mucker running back Angel Hipolito ran for 295 yards on the ground on 26 carries with three scores in the win.

UP NEXT: Sierra Lutheran (2-3) will travel out to Owyhee (0-4) Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
