A 34-year-old Dayton man was arrested Thursday night after a standoff with Lyon County Deputies.

Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of Sweetwater Circle in Dayton for a report of shots fired and a male subject armed with a rifle running from an apartment in the area around 4:20 p.m.

Callers reported that the male subject was then seen running into a garage of one of the adjacent apartments, according to a press release. As deputies arrived on scene witnesses advised that the suspect ran into a garage and was inside. Deputies approached the garage called out to the suspect however he did not come outside. As deputies called out to the garage the garage door closed and the man did not come out of the garage.

The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Crisis Negotiators responded to the area. Deputies called out to the suspect for several hours to no avail, so the SWAT team made entry into the garage and discovered the suspect was sitting inside of a vehicle parked in the garage.

The suspect, Cody Ward, 34, was found unresponsive, though still armed with a handgun, and was removed from the vehicle and life saving measures were administered, to include deputies administering Narcan to the suspect. Central Lyon County Fire Department Paramedics responded and took over lifesaving efforts and ultimately the suspect was revived and transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The apartment was searched and multiple firearms were recovered, to include an AR-15 style rifle, shotgun and a handgun. Drug paraphernalia was also recovered inside the apartment.

Once the suspect is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Lyon County Jail on suspicion of the following charges: discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling; ex-felon in possession of a firearm; obstructing and delaying a peace officer; brandishing a firearm; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Total bail will be set at $68,387.
