Singers from seven Carson City schools came together to perform the Nevada state song, “Home Means Nevada,” by Bertha Raffetto last week.

A total of 295 music students from Carson High, Carson Middle, Eagle Valley Middle, Bordewich Bray Elementary, Fritsch Elementary, Empire Elementary and Seeliger Elementary took part.

The event was held in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center in preparation for observance of Nevada Day.

This year the Nevada Day Parade theme is “Home Means Nevada.” With it being the state song, it gave many music teachers an opportunity to involve students and get them to sing and wish their state a happy 159th birthday, said Briana Valley, music teacher at Carson Middle School.

"This inspiring performance serves as a testament to the power of music to foster a sense of identity and belonging,” Valley said in a news release.

The performance also allowed younger students to see the great opportunities and groups they have to look forward to at the secondary education levels, she continued. She hoped this activity helped get them excited to sing more and continue their music studies here in Carson City.
