The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is gearing up for its second annual K9 challenge this fall with more than 30 dogs from Carson, surrounding counties and Nevada State Police.

The free public event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21 at Fuji Park.

“We welcome any and all to join us for this fun and exciting event,” CCSO officials said in a news release. “Come cheer on your favorite dog, enjoy some good food and a good show and support your local K9s.”

Dozens of K9s from multiple agencies will compete in three primary events: patrol apprehension, odor detection and agility, CCSO said.

“Apprehension and agility events will be on full display at Fuji’s main arena, where there are bleachers for public viewing (and cheering),” the office said.

Participants will be able to meet dogs and vendors, check out “K9 swag” and enjoy food including tacos, poke and barbecue. A SWAT demonstration is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. JJ Christy with K-Bull 98.1 FM will make a special appearance at 1 p.m., and there will be a mounted unit demonstration at 3 p.m.
