A Fallon man who served in the U.S. Navy recently received a quilt sewn by the Comstock Quilters.

The presentation made in early December honored Patrick H. LeClaire for his years of service in the Navy and also with his involvement in the Fleet Reserve Association. LeClaire enlisted in the U.S Navy in 1966, and his military career included assignments at several naval air stations and vessels. He achieved the rank of petty officer first class before retiring from the Navy in 1987.

LeClaire’s personal decorations include the Humanitarian Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

The Quilts of Valor foundation began in 2003, after founder Catherine Roberts followed a dream since her son Nat had been deployed to Iraq.

Marsha Stand and Mona Crandell Hook, members of the Comstock Lode Quilters, presented a quilt to LeClaire with his family in attendance. Each Quilt of Valor may be fashioned by one or two quilters or by the combined efforts of many men and women of all skill levels.
