Three first responders in Storey County were honored with the Lifesaving Award on Jan. 20 for rescuing a man from a structure fire in August of last year.

The residential fire occurred at 9:28 p.m. on Aug. 13 in Virginia City, according to a news release. The Storey County Fire Protection District responded and was notified by the Storey County Sheriff’s Office that someone was inside.

“Back in August, Capt. Daniel St. Clair, firefighter/paramedic Derek Giurlani and Deputy Eli Kerr teamed up to save a man trapped in a garage fire,” according to the release. “Thanks to their heroic efforts, the man was taken to the hospital and survived.”

The Storey County Awards and Commendation Committee recommended the award. According to the release, it is the third highest award “first responders can achieve.”
