The Greenwave boys and girls basketball teams won the Class 3A state academic team title as several players were named to the all-region and all-state teams as selected by the coaches.
Fallon sophomore Jada Anastasio was named to the 3A North’s second team while senior Zoey Jarrett was named honorable mention. Anastasio was selected to the 3A East’s first team while Jarrett was named to the second team. Freshman Karlie Simper and junior Vernita Fillmore were selected as honorable mentions.
Anastasio led the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game as the Wave had its best season since winning state in 2019. Fallon finished third in the 3A East and defeated South Tahoe in the postseason before falling to Fernley.
Jarrett led the team in assists and steals per game with 2.8 and 3.7, while Fillmore pulled down 3.4 rebounds per game. Simper finished in the top-three on the team in assists, blocks and steals.
Lowry senior Savannah Stoker was selected as the region’s Player of the Year after leading the Buckaroos to their third-straight state title when they came from behind to defeat Fernley last month.
Fallon senior Brady Alves was named to the all-region second team and 3A East’s first team while junior Trevor Hyde was selected to the 3A East’s second team and all-region honorable mention. Senior Baylor Sandberg and junior Braden Sorensen picked up 3A East honorable mention recognition.
Alves led the team with a 10.1-point game average, 2.7 steals per game and 3.9 assists per game as the Greenwave finished fourth in the 3A East. Sorensen was second on the team with nine points per game and 1.8 assists per game. Hyde was the team’s most accurate shooter, making 54 percent of his shots, while Sandberg led the team in rebounding with 5.9 boards per game.
Fernley’s Cade Knutsen was named the region’s coach of the year and Fernley senior guard Johnnie Williams was named player of the year. The Vaqueros went undefeated in the league and regional postseason before falling in the state semifinals.
