The Capital City Community Band awarded its Richard Doede scholarship to Zach Carpenter at its Salute To Young Musicians Concert on March 24.
The scholarship was established to honor a young member of the band who is a senior in high school, has participated in the band, and plans to keep music in their future.
The board of directors named the scholarship in honor of the band’s founding director Richard Doede.
Carpenter has been a member of the CCCB for four years playing tuba and trombone. He also participates in the CHS wind ensemble, jazz band, marching band and winter drum line. He plans to attend UNR and hopes to become an optometrist, while keeping music in his life forever. He plans to audition for the Wolf Pack marching band and other ensembles.
Scholarships are funded by donations from the community and band members.
