As we exit winter 2024, it’s not too soon to begin planning a winter escape for 2025, for by the time February again arrives in Northern Nevada, we’re ready for some sunshine and warmth.

On Feb. 4, 2025, the Carson City Chamber Travel Club will venture to one of the most biodiverse countries in the world full of colorful birds and unique photo worthy flora and fauna living in cloud forests, rainforests, on beaches, and around volcanoes.

Costa Rica is that destination and for those who want to view ecotourism at its best, this small, lush country is reputed to be one of the world leaders in environmental sustainability.

There are many tours to Costa Rica of all lengths and prices. We chose to reserve space on Collette Vacations, “Costa Rica: A World of Nature featuring the very best of the natural topography to include national parks, a crocodile safari, guided jungle walks, and bird-watching hikes.”

Confined to no more than 24 passengers, this small group 11-night tour is for those who not only want a bit of warm sunshine and adventure but a true cultural experience in a country known as “the emerald of Central America.”

Caution: this is not a tour for those who wish to laze around a pool, although there will be time for that, too. It’s a tour for the active traveler who might enjoy optional zip lining, walking across suspended bridges, and hiking along trails for an up close and personal look at the Arenal volcano.

Your first night will be spent in San Jose meeting your fellow travelers. The “real adventure” begins the next day as you travel to Tortuguero National Park located on the Caribbean Sea, home of the famous migration of sea turtles.

You’ll get right into the feel of your coming adventure by taking a boat ride for your two-night stay at a jungle lodge located right in the middle of the jungle. On your ride, all around you, you’ll hear the melodic sounds of a variety of birds and monkeys as they greet and peer down at you while you peer through the lush foliage to find them.

Then there’s a visit to as cacao plantation in the Tirimbina Rainforest – called an “Impact Moment,”

by Collette. You’ll spend two nights here at a secluded nature resort featuring a botanical garden before venturing to Arenal for the next three nights known for the cloud forest, hanging bridges and volcano. Here you will have time to relax on your own or maybe enjoy an optional whitewater rafting experience.

The jungle adventure ends with a two-night stay at Los Suenos Marriott, the oceanfront hotel and golf resort in Playa Herradura. Here you will visit Manuel Antonio National Park, “home to white sand beaches, verdant rainforests, and where the wild things are,” according to the tour brochure.

As you leave the beautiful Pacific Coast resort and venture back to San Jose, your last adventure continues with a side tour to the mangroves of Tarcoles to experience a jungle crocodile safari, which should leave a lasting impression. You’ll have seen much of this country as you venture from coast to coast.

February is a fantastic time to leave our gray, cold climate for Costa Rica is reputed to have the best weather in February and the middle of the dry season. This amazing first-class tour features 11 nights in jungle lodges and various resorts, 23 meals with lunch and dinner included daily along with four lunches, as well as air from Reno to San Jose, Costa Rica, all touring with a professional guide, transfers and free parking at the chamber and transfers between our office and Reno-Tahoe Airport.

Per person double for this incredible tour that has almost everything included is $4,249. We know our tour will sell out quickly as do many of our tours, especially since this is a small tour adventure. Your deposit will hold your space.

For the complete brochure, log onto the chamber website at www.carsoncitychamber.com and then proceed to the Travel Club page featured on the left to view this and all other tours.

Or stop by 1900 S. Carson St., to pick up a brochure. We can all use a bit of pura vida (simple life) anytime of the year!
