Yerington woman dies in structure fire Monday

At approximately 11:49 p.m. Monday, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office Communications Division received a 911 call of a reported residential structure fire on Spence Lane in Yerington.

The Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Department, deputies from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Southern Command Patrol Division and the Yerington Police Department responded to the residence. Upon arrival, they found a single-family home fully engulfed in fire.

It was quickly determined that one female adult and two juveniles were able to escape the fire uninjured, according to a press release. One male subject suffered severe burns and was transported via CareFlight for treatment and one female adult was unable to escape the fire and was still inside the residence.

After the fire was extinguished, the remains of Jessica Canterbury, 36, of Yerington were located within the residence. Investigators with the Nevada Department of Public Safety, State Fire Marshall's Office responded to investigate the cause of the fire.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Investigations Division, with the assistance of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Forensic Investigation Section responded and are conducting the death investigation.
