Pitching dominated the Northern 3A regional softball tournament while late-inning heroics capped off the baseball bracket as Fallon won both tournaments in Spring Creek on Saturday.

The Lady Wave softball team rode the arm of junior Vernita Fillmore while the offense outscored the opposition, 25-2.

On the baseball diamond, James Kelsey’s game-winning hit in the eighth inning gave the Greenwave the regional title as both the baseball and softball teams will play in this week’s state tournament.

And they won’t have to travel far at all.

Fallon will host both tournaments, starting on Thursday, at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex. Thursday will feature two games on each side with the winners advancing to Friday afternoon’s championship semifinal and the losing teams battling in the consolation round Friday morning. The 3A state title game is at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Fallon also advanced several swimmers and track and field competitors to this week’s state meet. The swimming finals are in Las Vegas while Carson High School is hosting the track and field meet. The Fallon boys golf team also advanced to state this week in Pahrump.
