The Fallon City Council has approved funding for replacement sanitation trucks and approved a gaming license.

The council held a public hearing and then approved both ordinance 782 and the adoption of resolution 24-05 to allow the city to issue revenue bonds not to exceed $1.4 million to fund the procurement of sanitation trucks. Due to the critical need the resolution allows the city to recoup the acquisition costs of sanitation trucks incurred before the funding’s approval.

The funding will also cover operation and maintenance of the currently available trucks.

City Clerk/Treasurer Sean Richardson said the city’s staff is looking at two used sanitation trucks for immediate purchase. Two additional new trucks will be ordered but the estimated delivery time is over a year away.

Richardson said that the trucks in use are from 2000, 2005 and 2008. The backup trucks have recently been put back into rotation due to extensive repairs that have put some current trucks out of commission. While the mileage on each truck may be relatively low, the vehicles are in use five days each week for eight hours a day. The engines and chassis are often fine, but Richardson said the hydraulics systems used to collect the refuse are worn out and expensive to repair, he said.
