Enjoy an introduction to cross country skiing and soaking in a hot-water pool on Jan. 6.

This 3-hour, outdoor experience will take place at Grover Hot Springs State Park, weather permitting.

It will be led by park rangers with the California State Park System.

Participants are requested to meet at 10 a.m. at the Grover Hot Springs parking lot.

Grover Hot Springs State Park is located four miles from Markleeville, Calif., about 35 miles from Carson City.

This is a course offered in cross country skiing for those who have always wanted to try but never had the chance. The 2-mile tour on easy terrain will include instruction in equipment selection, standing, walking, turning, gliding, and some downhill techniques for beginners. If Grover Meadow lacks snow, the instruction will shift to Hope Valley.

Participants are requested to provide their own cross country ski equipment and to wear layered clothing for variable weather conditions.

Bring a swimming suit and towel for use in the hot water pool ($4 per person), following the hike.
