A free, 3-hour course on learning how to hike in snowshoes is being offered at Donner Memorial State Park on Saturday. The course is offered by park rangers with the California State Park System.

Donner Memorial State Park is located at the east edge of Donner Lake, just west of Truckee, Calif., about 45 miles from Carson City.

The one-day class is for novices and it is limited to the first 35 persons who pre-register.

The hike will begin at 10 a.m. at the Donner Memorial State Park museum building and participants should be in fairly good physical condition.

The hike will be over easy, level terrain and it will consist of trekking one mile out and one mile back.

Participants are requested to provide their own snowshoes, ski poles to assist with balance, to wear layered clothing for variable weather conditions, snacks and water.
