Memorial services for R.R. "Sandy" Sandstrom, 78, will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Kerak Shrine, 4935 Energy Way in Reno.

A longtime resident of Nevada, Mr. Sandstrom died Dec. 27, 2001, at home with his family. He was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Chile, to Arthur Charles and Lena Richardson Sandstrom.

Mr. Sandstrom served in the U.S. Army in North Africa and Italy during World War II.

He worked for Western Electric Co., now AT&T, for 37 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Mount Rose Lodge No. 40 of the Free and Accepted Masons, was Honorary KCCH Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Reno Chapter 7 Royal Arch Masons, Reno Council 4 Cryptic Masons, De Witt Clinton Commandery Knights Templar, York Rite, Royal Order of Scotland, Camel Herders, Past director of Court 33 Royal Order of Jesters, was treasurer emeritus of Kerak Shrine having served nine years.

He was also past director of Kerak Stagecraft, Charter Rabban of Washoe Hillbilly Clan 115, Past Camaxtli of Teocali 17 Order of Quetzalcoatl, Battle Born Post 9211 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels, Potentate of Kerak Shrine in 1195 and a Life Member of the Cabiri.

Mr. Sandstrom was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Margaret, and a brother, Edward.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; stepdaughter, Cindy Carmak (Poncho), stepsons David (Debbie) and Dale De Angeli; granddaughters Heather De Angeli and Cindy Trease, grandsons Clyde and Bobby Carmak, three great-grandsons; a sister Dorothy Heater, her children and their families.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Shrine Hospital for Children in care of the Kerak Shrine, 4935 Energy Way, Reno, NV 89502.

Walton's Sierra Chapel in Reno is in charge of arrangements.
