Howard Alerton Dunbar, 85, a Carson City resident since 1989, died Aug. 9, 2006, in Carson City.

Mr. Dunbar was born July 24, 1921, in San Francisco to Howard Alerton Dunbar and Anabelle Zwillinger Dunbar.

He married Eleanor Rose Schwarz on Jan. 9, 1949, in Las Vegas.

Before moving to Carson City, Mr. Dunbar lived in San Francisco and Millbrae, Calif.

He was educated in accounting.

He was the owner of Merrill Reed Lithograph, and a partner and associate for Waller Press in San Francisco.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 101st Airborne Division.

He served four and a half years in the Pacific Theater.

He belonged to Masonic Lodge No. 1 F&AM.

Among his survivors are his wife; sons and daughters-in-law David and Lynette Alerton Dunbar of Kelseyville, Calif., and Scott and Deborah Alerton Dunbar of American Canyon, Calif.; sister, Georgeanne Benjamin of San Francisco; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Cremation took place at Walton's Sierra Crematory. An Episcopal and Masonic service was held Aug. 12 at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society, the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada or to the Shriners Hospital.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
