A Carson City man was arrested earlier this week after he allegedly sold methamphetamine to undercover Douglas County deputies, then led them on a slow-speed chase into Carson City.

Jose Vargas-Nuno, 26, was booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of felony trafficking methamphetamine and eluding a peace officer.

According to Douglas County Undersheriff Bob Rudnick, Vargas-Nuno allegedly delivered a half ounce of methamphetamine to a location in Minden on Monday. When deputies moved in to arrest him, he allegedly fled in his vehicle.

Mezzetta said Vargas-Nuno fled north on Highway 395 from Minden and was pursued by marked patrol vehicles for a short distance. When he failed to yield to the marked patrol vehicles, the pursuit was terminated because the dangers outweighed the benefits, according to Mezzetta.

Douglas County notified the Carson City Sheriff's Department, and Carson deputies spotted Vargas-Nuno when his vehicle entered Carson City. Carson deputies followed Vargas-Nuno until he allegedly abandoned his vehicle in the hills off Deer Run Road and fled on foot. Deputies pursued Vargas-Nuno on foot and captured him.

At the time of his arrest, Vargas-Nuno was out of jail pending sentencing in Carson City District Court on a methamphetamine trafficking case from earlier this year.

Vargas-Nuno is being held in the Douglas County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bail.
