A memorial service for Sam Ginsburg, 81, a 29-year resident of Carson City, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Ginsburg died March 14, 2006, in Carson City.

He was born April 5, 1924, in Oakland, Calif., to Morris and Jennie Ginsburg.

He married Kay Ginsburg in 1950 in Reno.

He attended the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.

He retired from the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department after many years as a detective.

He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II.

He was active in the California and Nevada Masons, the Scottish Rite, and Shrine. He was also a past Grand Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

He was preceded in death by his son, William Ginsburg, and sister Lillian Britton.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; son and daughter-in-law Ralph and Donna Ginsburg, of Concord, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Rhoda and Dub of Carson City; daughter Linda, of Pittsburg, Calif.; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.

Burial will take place in the family plot in Walnut Creek, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the O.E.S. Grand Chapter, either for Dr. Ron Pardini's Cancer Research or the Children's Transportation Fund of Kerak Temple, 1825 Pocono Court, Sparks, NV, 89434.
