A memorial service for Saundra "Ma" Bates, 66, a 30-year Washoe Valley resident, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Beginnings Christian Church, 145 Esmeralda Drive in Washoe Valley. The family requests that those attending the memorial service wear purple or Hawaiian-themed clothing.
Mrs. Bates died Feb. 12, 2007, at her home.
She was born Nov. 21, 1940, in Des Moines, to George Fatino and Nila Ballard.
She married Bryde Bates on Feb. 21, 1979, in Carson City.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Among her survivors are her brothers and sisters-in-law Brady and Doris Fatino of North Bend, Ore., and George and Betty Fatino of Dayton; sister, Laura Lewis of Carson City; son Given Hammer of Washoe Valley; sons and daughters-in-law Brett and Gina Bates and Bryde "Chick" and Diane Bates, all of Reno; daughter Nedra Slack of Palmer, Alaska; daughters and sons-in-law Cathy and Bill Macoulay of Reno, Cindy and Tom Moreno of Virginia Beach, Va., and Carol and Mitch Peroddy of Onamia, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
