Man arrested after dog kicked

A Carson City man was arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly hitting his mother and kicking her elderly dog.

Tyson Andrew Deforest, 22, a construction worker, was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of gross misdemeanor cruelty to animals and domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, Deforest was arguing with his mother at her home on Sherman Lane about 9:30 a.m. when he allegedly struck her in the hand then stormed out of the room.

On his way out, the report states, Deforest kicked his mother's 16-year-old schnauzer. The dog "did not move after he was kicked."

The victim took her dog to the vet where it is listed in critical but stable condition, said Deputy Rick Dodds.

"It's in shock so it just lays there," the deputy said.

Dodds said Deforest claimed nothing happened and the kick was accidental.

"He said he tripped on the dog as he was leaving the room," Dodds said.

The schnauzer is being held by the vet for observation.

Deforest is being held in jail on $5,632 bail.
