Dayton

4H Ski & Snowboard Club meeting set for Tuesday

Dayton 4H Ski & Snowboard club will hold an information and registration meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, in the Dayton Intermediate School multipurpose room.

The club is open to all Dayton students age 9, as of Jan. 1, through high school.

Trips to Mount Rose resort will begin on Friday Jan. 11, 2008, and continue for six weeks.

Transportation by charter bus, lessons, equipment and lift ticket are included in the package. Parents are also invited to participate.

Misfits present holiday show

The Misfits Theater Group will present a special Christmas dinner and mystery show Dec. 7-8 upstairs at Chuck's Old West Grill in the historic Odeon Hall, 65 Pike St., Dayton.

The show is written and directed by Tony Thornburg. It is the troupe's annual, never-to-be-repeated American Toy Co. Christmas Party. The company employees (the audience) enjoy a delicious, traditional Christmas dinner - turkey, ham, and all the fixings.

The troupe will perform Christmas songs like "Frosty the Snowman." During the event, the CEO reveals a spy from Wise Men Toys International may be among the group because documents have turned up missing. Suspicion points everywhere, and is further complicated by an office romance.

Canned food and coat drive begins next week

The canned food and coat drive will be held at the Greater Nevada Credit Union 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 17. This is a community event sponsored by Central Lyon Youth Connections, and Healthy Communities Coalition. For information, contact 246-0320.

Fallon

James Dean film 'Giant' to play

The Churchill Arts Council will conclude its Fall Film Series on Thursday at the Barkley Theatre at the Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon, with James Dean's last film, "Giant," which also stars Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson. The film will start at 7 p.m., and there will be a no-host art bar from 6-7 p.m.

Tickets are $7 for CAC members and $10 for nonmembers and will be available at the Oats Park Box Office on the night of the show. Call 423-1440.

Soul singer LaVette to appear

The Churchill Arts Council will present a performance by the blues diva Bettye LaVette on Saturday in the Barkley Theatre at the Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon.

Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the show is at 8. There will be a no-host bar. Tickets are $17 for CAC members, $20 for nonmembers, $10 for students at 423-1440.

WNC to stage 'Carousel'

Western Nevada College Fallon will offer the classic American musical "Carousel" at 7 p.m. today, Saturday and Nov. 15-17.

Shows will be at the Churchill County High School Theater, 1222 S. Taylor St.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Carousel" is the story of a small-town girl who falls in love with a carnival barker who has a bad reputation. It's love, consequences and redemption set in a New England close-knit fishing community, a story that explores the issues of social class and conduct.

Tickets are on sale at WNC Fallon. Prices are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, and $8 for children ages 12 and younger. Call 423-5186.

Fernley

Artists' Christmas sale set

The Artists' Guild of Fernley is sponsoring the Artists' Annual Christmas Sale from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Fernley Community Center.

Artists involved in the sale include J J Bredengerd, Sharri Lou Casey, Lavella Castillo, Stephanie Chin, Karen Dixon, Mary Henson, Tom Jackson, Maggie Jimenez, Joe McKinney, Paula Kerr, Brenda Retterer and Sandra Smith.

The artwork will range from acrylics, oils, pastels, to watercolors, ceramics, quilts, fashion, kitchen and bath accessories.

Gold Hill

Mark Twain's birthday celebrated with dinner

McAvoy Layne performs as Mark Twain in honor of Twain's 172nd birthday at a four-course gourmet dinner and show at the Gold Hill Hotel, 1540 Main St., Gold Hill.

Smith Valley

FFA alumni holds bingo night

The Smith Valley FFA Alumni is sponsoring a Bingo Night beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday in the gym at Smith Valley High School.

There will be more than 200 prizes and gift certificates given away.

Bingo cards are $5 each, or five for $20, and a variety of drinks and snacks will be available for purchase.

A carnival with games for the younger kids will be held, and the SVHS agriscience students will have their gift baskets ready for a silent auction.

Veterans Day potluck planned for Monday

The Smith Valley Veterans Day Potluck will be held noon Monday at the Smith Valley Schools.

Table service, dessert, and enchiladas will be provided.

For the potluck, those with last names starting with A-L, are asked to bring a main dish and those with last names beginning with M-Z are being asked to bring salads.

This year's Veterans Day event is hosted by the Smith Valley Schools K-6, Smith Valley 4-H, Beta Sigma Phi, Mrs. Fillmore's Art Class, and former VFW Ladies' Auxiliary Post No. 8084.

Stagecoach

Lyon, Storey Democrats to hold caucus training

The Lyon and Storey County Democratic Central committees will hold a joint training session for presidential caucus-goers from 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the Stagecoach Community Center on Highway 50. Call 246-4084.

For Carson City and Douglas County, caucus training will be 5:30-9:30 p.m. Friday at the Carson Nugget.

In Churchill County, the event will be from 2-5 p.m. at the Round Table Pizza in Fallon.

Virginia City

Veterans Day Parade set

Veterans will be in attendance at the annual Virginia City Veterans Day parade, down C Street beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Virginia City will honor as grand marshal Glenn Tierney of Carson City, a retired test pilot who worked on the first Sidewinder guided-missile system.

Anyone wishing to be a part of the parade can get a form at the Virginia City Visitor's Center, 86 South C Street, by calling 847-4FUN (4386) or online at VisitVirginiaCityNV.com. Forms should be turned in by Saturday.

Late entries are welcome, but will be put the entrant at the end of the parade. There will be a free spaghetti feed for parade participants after the parade at the Storey County Senior Center, Mill and E streets, Virginia City.

Cowboys' Christmas show at Piper's

David John and the Comstock Cowboys will perform their annual "Christmas in the Sierra" production at Piper's Opera House for two shows, 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8.

The band mixes Christmas songs cowboy-style with holiday originals and traditional carols. Santa will be on hand for the children.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and veterans, and $12 for children under 12. Call 847-4768.
