Infernal thief. Mr. Lorentz, a stock rancher in Pine Valley, relates an incident that occurred at his ranch. A small man, intelligent and with much suavity of manner, rode up to his barn and asked for supper. It was furnished to him, and he fed his horse and rested up. He saddled up and rode up to the door, thanked Mr. Lorentz and asked him if he had ever heard of Tom Lawton, then he said, "Well, I am Tom Lawton." Mr. Lorentz discovered that the fellow had exchanged an old, worn out saddle for a brand new one that he had left in the barn. His traveler might have been jesting in regard to his being the Sacramento murderer but, there was no possible doubt of his being an infernal thief. Eureka Leader

Home industry. The thrifty and industrious people of Gardnerville are manufacturing something to sell abroad, and they make it a point never to buy anything except from a Gardnerville merchant. They make there own bacon and then consume it. The results have been the rapid development of a town which threatens to rival Carson. The creamery is run on a cooperation plan and the community holds the stock " money made is distributing among fifty families in the shape of dividends. In Carson the case is very different. The main industries are the railroad, the box factory and the water works. They have paid enormous dividends, but the community does not share them. They go to New York and San Francisco. The profits go out of the city and never return.

Xi Alpha chapter, Beta Sigma Phi sorority met at the home of Mrs. William Morgan. Mrs. Bill David presented a program on "Methods of Education." Attending were Mesdames Ross-Morres, Roy Marke, Joe Hawley, Jack Conner, Wallace Hesse, Bill Shewan, Ralph Harris, Bill Dolan, Al Ternau, Jack Slansky, Leon Etchart and Bill Berning.

The Bank of America, Dayton Branch, Dayton's only full service bank closes.

- Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
