Loving father, dependable son and caring brother are all words that describe Scott Rowan, as do tennis fanatic and sports enthusiast. Scott, who was also known for his unfailing kindness, died Monday in a car accident. He was 52.

Scott Earl Rowan was born on Aug. 11, 1955, in Ely to father, Earl Rowan, and mother, now Shirley Clark. He lived most of his life in Carson City and worked in the area in the grocery business. He spent most of his free time on the tennis courts where players have known Scott for years to be a worthy competitor as well as a friendly, easy-going person both on and off the courts. Scott, a football fan, loved attending USC games with his father and his brother, Ron, both USC alumni. He also spent his free time and a quirky sense of humor with his sister, Julie. He spent vacations with his son, Joseph, playing and talking sports, and preparing for Joseph's upcoming induction into the Air Force.

Preceding Scott in death was his father, Earl, of Carson City.

Those he left behind include his son, Joseph, 17, of Grapevine, Texas; his mother and her husband, Shirley and Jack Clark of Carson City; his brother and wife, Ron and Stacy Rowan, and their children, Bennett, Christopher and Tyler, of Reno; his sister, Julie Rowan, of Carson City; aunt and uncles Joan and George Wilkerson and Bruce Simpson, all of Carson City; a large extended family and numerous friends.

A funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Carson City on the corner of Division and Musser Streets.

Arrangements were made by the Cremation and Burial Society of Carson City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to Scott's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
