Carson-Douglas members on verge of making nationals

Appeal Staff Report

It looks like the Carson-Douglas Rodeo Club will be well-represented at next month's National High School Rodeo Finals.

Several members from the Carson-Douglas club will compete today in the championship round of the Nevada State High School Rodeo Finals being held in Winnemucca. The top 15 performers have advanced to today's final round.

The Carson-Douglas club already has one member who has qualified for nationals as Jonathon Glocknitzer will return to nationals in boys cutting. Glocknitzer finished third overall to make it to nationals. The top four qualify for nationals.

Another member of the Carson-Douglas club who looks to be well on her way to nationals in Elyse Heberger. She won both of her performances this week at state in breakaway roping, finishing her first go-round in 2.9 seconds and her second go-round in 2.4 seconds.

Heberger is the overall leader heading into today's final round. Heberger has also advanced to today's final round in goat tying and barrel racing. Heberger took fifth in one of her performances this week in goat tying.

Two other Carson-Douglas members who are virtually assured of advancing to nationals are Cory Hershkowitz and Cody Kiser in bareback riding. In both of their performances, Hershkowitz took third and Kiser was fourth.

In addition, Karyssa Perez of the Carson-Douglas Club was named as the Nevada State High School Rodeo Queen. She also took eighth in one of her peformances in pole bending.
