A fast-moving fire aided by high winds destroyed a double-wide mobile home Thursday night in Silver Springs.

Lyon County Emergency Management Director Jeff Page said the fire began about 8:16 p.m.

When crews arrived the home at 2960 Rawhide St. was fully engulfed in flames.

Page said winds of about 25 mph forced the evacuation of surrounding homes, but fire crews were able to quickly knock down the flames.

The home was destroyed.

The married couple and their two children who rent the home were visiting neighbors down the street when the fire erupted.

Red Cross and Lyon County Human Services have offered assistance.

The cause is under investigation.

Three engines, two squads, one ambulance, one command officer and one emergency manager from Central Lyon County Fire Protection District responded.
