130 YEARS AGO

A curious electrical phenomenon at Valley View Station, some 12 miles south of here. It was first observed last week when E.J. Curtis put wood in the stove, received such an electric shock, that he dropped the load and was knocked to the floor. The current was generated from a windmill some 50 feet away with a wire connected to the stovepipe. The shock only occurs when the wind blows, they say. The wire was disconnected after being discovered.

100 YEARS AGO

Governor and Mrs. Dickerson cordially invite the residents of Carson City to a pubic reception at the Governor's Mansion on Saturday, January 1, 1910. The mansion will be open for visitors during the day.

70 YEARS AGO

A "Community Christmas" has been held at the Civic Auditorium. The pageant is under the sponsorship of Capitol Post #4 of the American Legion.

50 YEARS AGO

The "Spirit of Nevada Day," Sade Grant, is featured in a full page story. Sade was one of Nevada's most colorful personalities, she has danced and kicked and pirouetted her way down Carson Street for 22 years (at that time), delighting tourists and residents alike. Weighing only 79 pounds, Sade says she'll even do a cartwheel, if asked.

20 YEARS AGO

The state Supreme Court has requested an appeal by colorful former U.S. Senate Candidate Manny Beals saying the Douglas County Commission did not act illegally when it condemned property owned by him for a county road. "Cave Rock Manny" was known for his hamburger stand at Lake Tahoe.

10 YEARS AGO

After more than a year, Carson officials will allow the property owner of the Cafe del Rio to demolish the building once an acceptable solution is reached. The property is across from the legislative building.
