Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation has a need for new volunteers to help feed, clean litter boxes and socialize several cats at a Carson City halfway home 10 a.m.-noon on Saturdays and/or Sundays.

A volunteer also is needed to transport cats from Carson City to cat adoptions every Saturday at Petco, on Topsy Lane. The cats need to be delivered by noon and those not adopted need to be picked up and returned by approximately 5 p.m. To volunteer or for information, e-mail tahoepet@yahoo.com or call 883-8996.

The Northern Nevada League of Women Voters will sponsor a presentation on Homeland Security focusing on how Northern Nevada is prepared for disasters including severe weather, terrorist attackers, and other emergencies.

The speaker will be Jan Browne, secretary of the Northern Nevada League of Women Voters.

This monthly meeting will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Johnny Carino's restaurant, in the Summit Sierra at the corner of South Virginia and Mt. Rose Highway.

Taste of the Towns tickets are now on sale at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 1477 U. S. Highway 395, Suite B, in Gardnerville and the Courthouse Museum, 2304 Main St., Genoa.

This fundraiser for the Historical Society will be

5-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. Thirteen restaurants are participating including four new restaurants this year.

Tickets are $20 for members of the Historical Society and $25 for non-members in advance. Tickets are limited and sell out early.
