Grasshoppers: A deputation of the beleaguering army of grasshoppers, en route for this place, arrived here yesterday. About a half dozen were seen on the street with the evident intention of giving warning of what is in store for us.

100 years ago

Preparations to attend the big celebration of the gold and silver ledges on Mt. Davidson on the Comstock are going on all over the state, except in Virginia City. Reports brought down the hill show the committee in charge in Virginia City do not realize the opportunity that presents itself nor the thing it is up against. This is no little local carnival. It is an event of world-wide interest. Newspapers carry no descriptions of what the carnival is to be, no arrangements for visitors, no details on the parade.

70 years ago

Catherine Newnham, member of the graduating class at Carson schools, deserves special mention. She has had a perfect attendance record for ten consecutive years.

50 years ago

Brownie troop 117 concluded season activities with a picnic at Mills Park. The girls enjoyed roasting wieners and marshmallows. Plans were discussed for attending day camp, with eight members signing up.

10 years ago

Fees for day use at city facilities are going up, but fees went down for a one-time use of the Pony Express Pavilion for the Carson City Boxing Club.
