Deputy Controller Daugherty has purchased a mechanical orguinette, and to make the outfit complete he now desires to buy an Italian monkey, well raised and accustomed to the business. Monkey dealers will please apply at the State Controller's office, where they will find a liberal purchaser.

100 YEARS AGO

One of the strongest poker games that has been played in this city in years is under way at a local card room where it has been in progress for the past 24 hours. This morning three hands showed up on the same deal, hands that anyone would like to get anytime and it looked as if the $2,000 in table stakes would all go in the pot before the hands were showed down.

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Berger had as dinner guests last Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Larry Cavanaugh, Emma Miller and Ray Elges.

50 YEARS AGO

Allen Pate, 72, of Alabama was carried into court on a stretcher today to obtain a divorce from his second wife, Bessie. Attorney Paul Laxalt said Pate had become seriously ill in the process of obtaining Nevada residency. Pate was so eager to get his decree, he asked to be taken to the courtroom on a stretcher rather than to put it off any longer.

20 YEARS AGO

Bill Dial, a 52-year resident of Carson City, was laid to rest here. Dial, a former real estate broker and insurance agent was a county commissioner and member of the Host Lions Club.

10 YEARS AGO

Sharkey's famous hospitality, music and the need to help children drew hundreds of Harley riders to the casino this week.

• Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
