Police believe a man dubbed the "Fedora Bandit" robbed a Bank of the West in Gridley, Calif., on Monday - the bandit's sixth alleged bank robbery since December.
Police received a 911 telephone call informing them of a bank robbery at the Gridley Road branch of Bank of the West about 2 p.m. Monday, according to the Gridley-Biggs Police Department.
Gridley is 60 miles north of Sacramento on Route 99.
Local police, the California Highway Patrol and FBI agents responded within minutes of the call and canvassed the area on the ground and by helicopter for the suspect without results.
FBI Special Agent Steve Dupre, of the agency's Sacramento office, said Tuesday the bureau still has not been able to obtain any solid leads on the suspect.
"There's really nothing new," Dupre said about the investigation. "We haven't received any tips that have led to anything."
However, Dupre said the bureau is actively pursuing the investigation.
The suspect is described as a white male with a fake goatee who is about 40 to 50 years old. He has gray or salt-and-pepper hair and is about 5-foot-9 to 6-feet tall, with a slim build. He commonly wears a fedora.
The FBI and Bank of the West are offering a $4,000 reward for tips leading to the Fedora Bandit's arrest.
Previous bank robberies have all been at Bank of the West branches: In Carson City on April 12, South Lake Tahoe on Feb. 18, Kings Beach on March 8 and Grass Valley twice, on Dec. 22 and
March 31.
