Doug Addison of Virginia City died Aug. 23, 2010. He was 83. He was born in Portland, Ore., the son of James A. and Irma Addison, originally of Glasgow, Scotland.

He graduated from Oregon State University in 1950 and went to work for Johns Manville Corporation. Doug married his college sweetheart, Marian in 1951. They had two children, Bruce and Tom. Doug's position with Johns Manville started in Eugene, Ore., and took him to Tacoma and Seattle. The family lived in Kirkland, Wash.

In 1977 at age 50, Doug took early retirement from Johns Manville and purchased Jack's Bar in Carson City. Doug and Marian operated the popular saloon until 2002. They also owned the nearby Capitol Motel.

Doug and Marian restored an 1876 Victorian home in Virginia City where they have lived for more than 30 years. They love V.C. because of the closeness of the community and the deep relationships they have developed. At age 75, Doug began a daily walking routine and is known around V.C. as "the walker" for taking three-mile walks every morning with his dog, followed by coffee in town with his buddies.

In addition to his support of his alma mater and college fraternity, he was member of the Shriners and the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife Marian, sons Bruce Addison (Andra) of Seattle, Wash., Tom Addison (Chris) of Bellevue, Wash., and granddaughters Marian and Megan Addison of Bellevue, Wash.
