Jottings: There are 8,000 acres of land in Orsmby and only 1,164 are irrigated. Times are so tough in Mono that residents steal telephone poles for wood. Commissioner Parker was so impressed at the eulogies made by the Appeal on catfish that he has put 2,500 of them in the Carson river.

100 YEARS AGO

The body of George Chichester, a pioneer resident of Antelope Valley was returning from a trip to England when he had a heart attack on the deck of the ship. The deceased leaves a wife, three daughters and one son.

70 YEARS AGO

Ten members of the Boy Scouts brought back some 200 Christmas trees for sale. Scouts were assisted by George Hardman, Donald Perry, Bernard Hartung, "Buck" Eldridge, Ray Nelson, E.C.D. Marriage and Bill Stenz. Trucks were loaned by the Carson Brewing Company and the orphans home.

50 YEARS AGO

The Reno Marine Corps Reserve "Toys for Tots" campaign will continue here through Dec. 23. Barrels have been set up at Gilbert Drug, Sprouse-Reitz, Safeway and Washoe Markets.
