130 YEARS AGO

A Livingston, one of the staunch Republicans of Genoa, arrived in town yesterday and came in to renew his subscription to the Appeal, remarking that he thought every Republican in Genoa ought to do the same. It is remarkable how the views of sensible men generally have the honor of coinciding with ours.

100 YEARS AGO

The authorities in Reno have put in jail two Indians who last week killed another member of their tribe. The guilty parties were apprehended through the confession of Frank Skimmerhorn, who states his father and brother cut the throat of Jesse Cook.

70 YEARS AGO

Lt. Jere J. Ivers, commanding the Mobile Recruiting Station 9-I, advises the Appeal that young men interested in the army are invited to visit the new recruiting station on Oct. 7, 1940. The first draft lottery may be held October 21st with Roosevelt drawing the first number.

50 YEARS AGO

The Kit Carson Toast-masters will meet in the social hall at Stewart church for the regular dinner meeting and election of officers. Speakers are Charles Moran, Del Armstrong, Bob Weideman, and Hallie O. Walters. Dick Lane is toastmaster and Bill Dolan general evaluator.

20 YEARS AGO

Mustang Ranch is forever dead as a brothel. In a unanimous vote, the Storey County Commissioners voted the Mustang Ranch cannot be operated as a brothel in the future.

10 YEARS AGO

Historic items were uncovered near the old post office including bricks from a 100-year-old house. The artifacts were uncovered while workers dug 15 or 20 holes for light standards.
