'Fruit Barons' wonderful help

Carson City is very blessed to have the "Fruit Barons". They came to our house recently and harvested our apples. They were very friendly, fast, efficient and cleaned up the leaves and twigs after they finished picking the apples. All for free (they wouldn't accept a donation from us). We are grateful to these wonderful people. We all tend to forget that we have many good people living here in Carson City. A hundred thanks,

Many made TRIAD seminar successful

The Senior Education Seminar, sponsored by Douglas County Nevada TRIAD in conjunction with the Carson Valley Medical Center and held at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church on Oct. 13 was a complete success.

The theme of this year's seminar was "Care for the Caregiver." Diana Malekos from the Carson Valley Medical Center did a great job in managing this presentation and Travis Lee, TRIAD president and Douglas County Senior Services manager, was an excellent master of ceremonies. Congratulations to the outstanding presenters who were registered nurses Dee Dee Metcalf, Amy Meeks and Mary Foraker, plus Heather Korbulick and Laura Rich from the Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division.

Most of the attendees were caregivers, medical professionals and seniors. Breakfast and lunch were provided and served by TRIAD, which was appreciated by those in attendance. There were numerous vendors with interesting displays and information. These vendors also donated unique and generous raffle prizes. A special appreciation goes out to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, East Fork Fire and Paramedics District and Douglas County Senior Center, who were instrumental in making this seminar a success.

Thanks to BAWN and PWB for Helping Hands program

Once again I am truly amazed at the Builders Association (BAWN) of Western Nevada and the Professional Women in Building (PWB). On Sept. 25 this group of hard-working and dedicated professional women successfully completed the Helping Hands Program, which assisted 25 single female homeowners that had honey-do lists and no honey to do them. The program houses were located in Carson City, Reno, Lyon County and Douglas County.

The council, which is made up entirely of volunteers, includes Nichole Wassen, vice president, Casey Neilon & Assoc; Tonya Champa, secretary, Nevada Appeal; Jana Lease, Incline Builders; Chris Slabaugh, The LED Light; Nicola Neilon, Casey Neilon & Assoc; Julie Hearn, Southwest Gas; and Jennifer Duve, president, Miles Construction. A special thanks is extended to these devoted, talented women.

Each member took a construction crew made up of employees from Miles Construction, Jares Construction, Incline Builders, Ridgeline Development, Q & D Construction, LB Builders, DG Hand Construction, Cassinelli Landscaping, Black Pine Construction, Capital Glass, Bonanza Plumbing, Mason Electric, Curbit Concrete Company, Rite of Passage and students from the WNC Project Management course. And all our material and supply vendors; NV Energy, Empire Contractors, Great Basin Brewery, WES Graphics, Lowe's, Aladdin Photography, Channel 2 news and Kristen Remington, Think Kindness, L'uva Bella Wine Company, Mark Kay, and The Nevada Appeal.

And our council extends a sincere thank you to BAWN. Through all your continued support for PWB you have helped us realize our dream in making our program such a success; we couldn't have done it without all of you!

I am honored to be president of this extraordinary group of women who together keep making a positive difference in other's lives.
