Noted geologist, author and administrator of the Nevada Division of Minerals, Alan R. Coyner, will highlight the Tuesday meeting of the High Desert Rockers at the Nevada National Guard Center in Carson City.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m., 2460 Fairview Drive. Check in at the guard house and be prepared to present identification.

The public is invited to attend the meeting as Coyner opens some of Nevada's deadly abandoned mines, revealing their history and pitfalls.

High Desert Rockers is a free and open network of people with a passion for exploration, connection and creativity, and who share a love of geology, hidden treasures and wide open spaces.

Information will be provided on resources and connections, including upcoming classes and field meet-ups. Please note that sign-ups for the October gold-panning class will close that night.
