Little League road show coming to Carson

Nevada District 1 Little League is hosting a Little League Road Show and coaching clinic Jan. 21 at the Carson Nugget.

The road show goes from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and is targeted toward local league boards. The coaching clinic runs from 3 to 5 p.m. and will be put on by Dr. Frank Smoll. It's directed toward coaches, but is useful for anybody involved in youth sports.

Silver Oak seniors looking for members

The Silver Oak Senior Men's Club is already planning for its 2012 season.

The cost to join the senior group is $75, which includes $35 greens fees, free range balls on game days, pro shop credits, pro shop discounts and an awards banquet at the end of the season.

Dean's Machine leads way in 9-ball

Dean's Machine has a 20-point lead over Twisted Stix With Attitudes in the Comstock Division of the Carson City chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.

In the high tier, Dan Haddix leads the way with 49 points, nine ahead of Mike Snoddy. In the middle tier. Chris Skelley leads the way with 40 points, five ahead of Kim Dandos and Don Tucker. Jackie Richards leads the low tier with 31, four ahead of Greg Gonzalez.

In the Mosconi Division, AltF4 leads the way followed by the Rattlers and Mad Dogs.

In the high tier, Jamie Day leads Don Allred by one point. In the middle tier, John Raker leads the way with 34 points, two ahead of Richard Baker and Bob King. In the low tier, Carri Kerr and George Vick are tied for first with 22 points.

In the Highway 50 loop, Ponderosa leads Union Bruisers by six points.

Greg Theis leads the way for the high tier players, while Rod Day leads Michael Hoppes by five points in the middle tier. In the low tier, Linda Miller leads Tom Miles by four points.


Elks FT contest set for Jan. 14

The Carson City Elk Lodge No. 2177 will host a free-throw contest at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 14 at the Carson City Community Center.

The event is open to boys and girls from 8-to-13. Registration begin at 8:30 a.m. with competition to start shortly thereafter. All entrants must be accompanied by a parent.

Dragons win AYSO tourney in Calif.

The Dragons, a girls soccer team of Carson City AYSO came back from a tournament in Foster City with a championship. The championship game ended 0-0 and came down to a shootout with Angela Cirone as the goalie and Valeria Torres kicking the winning goal.
