Bulls and broncs

Cowboys and cowgirls will mosey on to the Churchill County Fairgrounds arena.

The Fallon Ranch Rodeo runs Saturday through Sunday and features team roping, women’s steer wrestling and more. Bull and ranch bronc riding, however, are separate from the rodeo and run today and starts at 6 p.m..

The rodeo, meanwhile, kicks off at 6 p.m. today, 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and is in conjunction with the Churchill County Fair.

Admission to the fair is free and spectators will be showered with numerous vendors, exhibits and activities for children. In addition, a carnival will be present today and guests can earned unlimited rides and $20 off with the purchase of an all-day pre-purchased pass. Tickets, which are limited, are being sold at Louie’s Home Center, Big R Ranch Supplies, Jeff’s Digitex Printing and the Parks and Recreation Department.

The bull and bronc event, which is in its third year and sanctioned by the Western State Ranch Rodeo Association, is growing, according to Nathan Pudsey, the stock contractor and promoter.

He said bull and bronc riders will come from Nevada, California, Oregon and Idaho. In addition, the prize money has increased, which has allowed the event to secure several better riders.

“It should be a pretty good deal this year,” Pudsey said.

Another featured event is the hand-to-horn combat competition, Pudsey said. It features members of the U.S. military poking the bulls and pretend to play poker and get hooked.

“I know the extreme hand-to-horn combat is pretty entertaining,” Pudsey added. “It should be fun. We hope to have a pretty good draw this year.”
