Two Fallon rodeo stars are headlining the local talent in this year’s Reno Rodeo.

Jade Corkill (team roping) and Steerling Lambert (steer wrestling) competed in the sixth performance on Wednesday as both try to finish on top before the rodeo’s final performance on Saturday.

Corkill, who won the team roping championship in last year’s world competition in Las Vegas, and his partner, Clay Tryan (Mont.) led the pack with a 4.5-second time in the second attempt after coming up empty in the first on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the tandem’s absent score didn’t count them in the standings for the sixth performance. The next best single score is 5.4 with Drew Holrner (Texas) and Buddy Hawkins II (Kan.) as they scored that mark in the first attempt and followed with a 5.7 in the second to lead the standings with a total of 11.1 seconds.

But overall, Corkill and Tryan are the best with a 4.5 after the second round but second place is only 0.1 seconds away.

In steer wrestling, Lambert placed in the top eight during Wednesday’s slack to compete in the evening performance.

Lambert finished the evening with a two-score total of 12.2, which put him in fifth place. The leader, Blake Knowles of Oregon, finished with 4.4 in each of the two attempts to lead the event with an 8.8 in the sixth performance.

Lambert, however, hasn’t placed in the overall standings as Brad Johnson (S.D.) and Morgan Grant (Texas) lead the event with 4.1 seconds each after the first round.

The seventh performance occurred Thursday with the eighth and ninth spanning over tonight and Saturday.

In addition to Corkill and Lambert, the team roping duo of Clint Harry of Fallon and Paul Mullins of Shaffer, Calif., went 6.2 in first go in the fourth performance. The pair recorded a no time in second go and finished 10th.

Marvel Murphy of Fallon went 18.19 in the first go in barrel racing and 17.28 in the second go for a total of 35.47 and finished third in the first performance. She is 12th overall in barrel racing.

Lowell Black, Jason Steele and Travis Peek of Fallon competed in the Reno Rodeo Invitational team roping event for amateur ropers. Steele and Jim Estill of Winnemucca placed 14th, while Peek and Kenny Rhodes of Fernley placed 32nd.

Black and his brother, Sean of Washington state, finished out of the money.
