Carson Performing Arts, the theater class at Carson High School, will present the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” for the next two weekends at the Community Center’s Bob Boldrick Theatre.
Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Wednesday, March 22 and 23 plus a matinee performance at 2 p.m. March 23.
The comedy-horror-musical is directed by Dana Fleming with a live orchestra directed by Jarod Sorum and Andy Sonnemaker.
“It’s Dana’s first year with us and she wanted to do something she and the cast could have fun doing together,” said Jamee Maxwell, a junior at the high school and assistant director for the production.
“Little Shop of Horrors” opened off-Broadway in 1982 and features ’60s-style rock songs by Alan Menken.
Narrated musically by a trio of street urchins, played by Stephanie Gansberg, Shaylee Nystrom, and Summer Barth, it tells the story of Seymour Krelbourn, played by Challen Wright, a hapless young man working in a run-down flower shop on skid row. Following an unexpected total solar eclipse, Seymour acquires a strange plant and names it after his coworker Audrey (Hannah Hartman), whom he secretly loves. The flower shop is owned by Mr. Mushnik (Henry Wilson).
As the play progresses, Seymour and Audrey discover their mutual love and Audrey II, grows to a gigantic, ravenous killer while bringing fame and fortune to the flower shop and to Seymour.
Audrey II is brought to life by puppeteers Amanda Ramsey, Claire Hachenberger, Jesse Toral and Kaeli Biggin with Mike Irvin giving voice to the murderous plant.
Tickets are available at the door and cost is $10 for general admission, and $5 for high school students with identification.
