Fallon track places in top 10 at Reed Invitational

Behind two first-place finishes at one of the biggest meets in the region, the Fallon boys track and field team finished sixth at the Reed-Sparks Rotary Invitational last weekend.

The girls team produced one champion to finish ninth as a team while the boys junior varsity team finished eighth overall.

Trent Tarner won the 40-yard dash and Nathan Heck took the pole vault title as the Greenwave varsity boys garnered 70 points, trailing only Elko (80) from the Division I-A. McQueen won the invitational with 114 points, followed by Reed (97), Reno (81), Elko (80) and Damonte Ranch (72.5).

Tarner won the 40-yard dash in 4.99 seconds and competed on two relay teams for the Greenwave. Nathan Heck scored a victory in the pole vault with a clearance at 14 feet. Heck also scored third-place finishes in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles as he ran the 110 in 16.20 and the 300 in 41.79.

Dakota Schelling finished seventh in the 40-yard dash at 5.11 while Jake Ernst took eighth in the 100-meter dash at 11.56, and Nathan Schank was eighth in the 400 at 52.68. Cameron Kissick and David Wedgbury followed in 20th (54.17) and 45th (1:06.43), respectively. In the 800, Tristen Thomson took seventh with a run of 2:06.69 while Schank was 10th at 2:08.79.

Fallon took fifth in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays with the 4x100 team finishing the race in 45.55 and the 4x200 in 1:34. Charles Fulks and Tarner competed on both teams, while Cole Service and Jake Ernst were on the 4x100 team and Jordan Schultz and Schank were on the 4x200 team.

The 4x400 team of Heck, Thomson, Schultz and Schank finished sixth in 3:41.13, while the distance medley team of Beau Marshall, Thomson, Schultz and Schank finished seventh in 11:45.85.

Justin Hatfield took sixth in shot put with a toss of 44 feet, 7.25 inches, and Schelling finished eight at 43-7.75. T.J. Mauga, who took 20th in the shot put, finished sixth in discus with a throw of 125-5. Hatfield was eighth at 124-7 and Carson Rigney’s 97-6 put him in 26th.

Marshall won the triple jump as he was Fallon’s highest placed athlete in the three jumping events. Marshall leaped 42-11 in the triple jump and had a 5-8 recording in the high jump. Marshall took ninth in the long jump at 19-8.

Jake Ersnt took 10th (39-2) and Miguel Lebron was 17th (37-8) in the triple jump, while Lebron was 17th (18-8) and Ernst was 20th (18-1.25) in the long jump.

The Lady Wave’s 36 points gave them a top-10 finish as Tahoe-Truckee won the invitational with 93 points, followed by McQueen (90.3), Reno (73), Damonte Ranch (73), Spanish Springs (67), Spring Creek (66.3), Reed (60) and Elko (40.3).

Patricia Legget won the long jump with a leap of 16-7.5 but finished 15th in the triple jump at 27-7. Elena Murray finished second in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.30 and also took fourth in the 40-yard dash in 5.68. Murray also took fifth in the long jump at 15-6.5 and 21st in the triple jump.

Allison Shirley took seventh in the 40-yard dash with a time of 5.91. Shirley also finished 23rd in the 400 run in 1:06.85, and Angelita Fermaint led the Fallon runners in the 1600. She finished the mile-long run in 6:40.53 for 46th, followed by Jordyn Rogers (55th, 6:48.96), Amanda Pursley (60th, 6:55.76) and Ruby Ugalde (61st, 6:56.70).

Fallon’s 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams took eighth while the 4x800 team was 13th. The distance medley team, was comprised of Rodgers, Diana Martinez, Ugalde and Taylor Bright, finished 11th in 16:07.12.

Leann Stands recorded a fifth-place finish in the discus with a trhow of 95-7 and took eighth in shot put at 32-0.75. Savannah Lamb took ninth in discus at 89-10 and Emily Coleman was 12th in shot put at 30-8.

Cassidy East and Aleisa Billips each finished ninth in the high jump at 4-4, while Billips took 16th in the long jump and 19th in the triple jump.

The boys JV team placed 11 in the top 10 to finish eighth out of 18 teams.

The 4x800 relay team of Ethan Smith, Taylen Cordes, Sean Cordes and Josh Moulton took second in 9:31.08, while the distance medley team of Macro Guerrero, Kendall Rogers, Dustin Hopkins and Michael Anderson finished seventh in 13:50.48.

The 4x100 and 4x400 teams finished ninth in 53.65 and 4:11.52, respectively, while the 4x200 team was 11th in 1:49.34. The 4x100 team consisted of Jacob Borges, John Kirkland, Tomas Diaz and Rodgers, while the 4x400 team included Taylen Cordes, Smith, Sean Cordes and Moulton. The 4x200 team included Borges, Moulton, Jordan Boothe and Matthew Hutzel.

Diaz took second in the shot put at 42-3.5 and Geof Sousa was sixth at 40-5.5. Diaz was also fourth in the high jump at 5-6, and Borges and Aaron Bitter each tied for ninth in pole vault at 9 feet. Evan Bitter finished fourth in the long jump at 18-10.

Aaron Bitter finished seventh in the triple jump at 37-2 followed by Evan Bitter in eighth at 36-9.
