The Churchill County Parks and Recreation Department has a full slate of summer activities planned for individuals of all ages.

In the fitness arena, the county offers weekly yoga classes with instructor Nikki Collier. The classes run on Thursday evenings at 6:15 p.m. in the multi-purpose building at the fairgrounds.

Cost is $30 for four classes or $10 per drop-in class. All levels of yoga participants — from first-timers to advanced — are welcome to come out and take in the benefits that yoga has to offer. Pre-registration is preferred.

The morning fitness bootcamp classes are designed for all levels of fitness. Instructor Marianne Woller’s sessions run Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5 a.m. at The Gym at Venturacci Park.

The drop-in rate for each class is $5 or buy a 10-class punch pass for $40. Pre-registration is preferred. All equipment will be provided by the class.

Zumba Fitness is a cardio interval workout that incorporates basic and easy to follow Salsa, Merengue, Soca, Cumbia, Belly dance, Filmi, Squats, Lunges, Reggaton and many other aerobic elements. It is the melting pot of fitness and most importantly no dance experience is required to participate and be successful in the class.

Classes are held nightly Monday to Friday each week as well as Saturday mornings. Instructors are all fully certified. Pre-registration is preferred, but drop-ins are welcome with the first class free of charge.

For the competition-driven athlete, the county has numerous offerings this year including the Dust Devil Sprint Triathlon, women’s volleyball league, the coed mud volleyball tournament and access to the climbing wall.

The triathlon is Aug. 16 and is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. The race takes participants into the Churchill County Indoor Pool for a 525-yard swim; a 14-mile, no hill, paved cycling course in rural Fallon; and a 2.9-mile run around the fairgrounds. The cost is $65 and includes numerous gifts and lunch. A team event is included this year for $120 per team. Age groups are from 16 years and older. Registration available on Active.com and at the Parks and Recreation Office.

The women’s volleyball league registration deadline as well as the first games will be on Aug. 12. The league will run Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6-10 p.m.

The cost per team is $225 per team and all games will be played at The Gym at Venturacci Park. The league will have a maximum of eight teams so early registration is encouraged.

The coed mud volleyball tournament is slated for Aug. 30-31. The tournament will be held during the Cantaloupe Festival at the fairgrounds (mud pits).

The price is $200 before Aug. 21 and $230 after (includes guaranteed event shirt if registered by Aug. 21 and two day passes to the Cantaloupe Festival). All teams are guaranteed three games.

There will be a cash prize and trophies for first, second and third place. There will also be a trophy for the winner of the consolation bracket. Final registration is Aug. 29 at 4 p.m.

Open climb times for the rock wall runs on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9-11 a.m. during the summer for all ages. The fee is $5 per person for unlimited climbing.

Evening and weekend hours will be available by request. All requests must be made a minimum of two business days in advance.

For the area’s youth, the county offers three camps and a rodeo program.

The SUMFUN day camp runs through Aug. 15. The camp is open to children 6 to 12 and runs from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Each week includes a theme, snacks, games, activities, crafts, field trips, swimming and more. Pre-registration for each week is required. The cost is $85 per week and there is a one-time registration fee of $15, which includes a SUMFUN T-shirt. Other fees include a $25 daily drop-in rate and $25 for the field trips to Wild Island. Full summer pre-payment option is available again this year.

The second youth volleyball camp will be held July 22-24 at The Gym at Venturacci Park. Jennifer Buckmaster will instructor players the skills needed to excel in volleyball.

The camp is open to children from grades fourth through seventh costs $50. Each participant will receive a volleyball tank top and volleyball.

This year’s football camp will be hosted by the Fallon Youth Football League coaches and staff. The camp runs from July 21-25 at the Churchill County High School practice fields from 5-7:30 p.m. each night.

The cost is $50 per person and includes a camp dry fit T-shirt and is open to children ages 5-14.

Back for another year of fun is the Churchill County Boots and Britches program. Many different and exciting events like barrel racing, goat tying, pole bending and much more are offered. Events are open to all ages and sign-ups begin at 5 p.m. each night.

The dates for the program this year are Tuesday, July 8 and 22 and August 5 and 12. A registration fee of $3 per person is required, while prices for events vary per age category.

The county also offers a family day on July 4 for its annual Picnic in the Park.

The day will start with the parade downtown and lead into the family picnic at the fairgrounds for an all day event. Co-sponsored with the Fallon Chamber and city of Fallon, this event has something for everyone.

Events include live music, bounce houses for children, a watermelon eating contest for all ages, vendors, food and more. Feel free to bring out a blanket and a basket of food and have a great day in the community celebrating the 4th of July.

Event will be open from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
