CCSD to discuss budget, recognize girls basketball

The Churchill County School District Board of Trustees will meet tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the Old High School auditorium (“The Pit”).

The board will recognize the Churchill County High School girls’ basketball team for winning the Nevada 3A state championship. The board will also recognize Anne Smith for being selected as the Nevada 3A girls’ basketball coach of the year.

Items for discussion and possible action include the following:

Superintendent Dr. Sandra Sheldon will report on the Community Flood Preparedness Plan, in cooperation with the city and county, to address flooding threats.

Resolution designated as the “2017 Refunding Bond Resolution,” declaring the necessity of incurring a bonded indebtedness (on CCSD’s behalf) to refund certain outstanding district bonds; also to authorize the issuance of the CCSD general obligation (limited tax) refunding bonds, series 2017 — providing the terms, conditions and form of the bonds (as well as ratifying action previously taken relating thereto and providing the effective date).

The board will discuss all aspects of the 2017-2018 budget and set budget priorities to provide direction to the budget committee and staff so that items to can be explored and quantified; staff will also provide information to the board for review.

Update on board governance document preparation (work in progress).

Update on the district’s strategic planning process.

In closed session, the board will discuss negotiations and strategies regarding the Churchill County Administrators’ Association, Churchill County Education Association, and the Nevada Classified School Employees Association.
